About Other Publications
As well as publishing select titles under the Violette Editions imprint, Robert Violette also devises, edits, produces and packages fine illustrated books for other publishers and for a select range of private and commercial clients.
Over the years, Robert's clients have ranged from HSBC Private Bank, Swarovski and Selfridges to Penguin Books, Anthony d'Offay Gallery, Blain|Southern and White Cube.
Recently published projects include Ten Years in the Bag: Selfridges 2003–2013, a commission from one of the world's greatest department stores, and Emerald, the most ambitious illustrated book ever produced on this rarest of all gemstones. In 2011 Violette Editions completed the first major monograph on fashion designer Hussein Chalayan for Rizzoli Publications, as well as its first book with photographer Juergen Teller: a sumptuous collection of photography by Slim Aarons, John Swope and Juergen Teller at the Hotel Il Pellicano in Tuscany, one of the finest hotels in the world, where Charlie Chaplin once owned a villa. This book, also published by Rizzoli, has been followed by an extraordinary collaboration between Teller and the hotel's Michelin-starred chef, Antonio Guida, Eating at Hotel Il Pelicano, this time published by Violette Editions.
Notably, Robert's first project as an independent editor, in 1996–7, was the first book by artist Damien Hirst, I Want To Spend The Rest Of My Life Everywhere, With Everyone, One To One, Always, Forever, Now (for Booth-Clibborn Editions), which received international acclaim and has since been praised as a classic of its time. Past projects also include One Woman's Wardrobe, winner of a prestigious Design & Art Direction Silver Award, for Jill Ritblat and the Victoria and Albert Museum, and Gilbert & George: A Portrait by the late Daniel Farson, published by HarperCollins. For Penguin, Robert edited and produced a book on Lord Foster's Millennium Bridge, and for Orion Publishers, served as a consultant editor for the book U2:SHOW. Robert was the launch editor in 2001 of TATE magazine, for Tate and Condé Nast; in 2004, editor for the launch issues of the fashion photography magazine BigSHOW; and, in 2008, the launch editor and packager of the Swarovski Design Biannual. Much more recently, Robert completed books on the work of Paris-based designer Arik Levy (for HSBC Private Bank and Swarovski) and architect Greg Lynn (for Rizzoli), as well as editing and producing WHY, WHAT, HOW: Collecting Design in a Contemporary Market, the first book by gallerist, curator and writer Libby Sellers (published by HSBC Private Bank).
